Hosted means the control plane is already running. LUNO ships as SaaS on Cloudflare Workers. You do not patch a Node CMS host, size a database, or keep a GraphQL plugin farm current. The surface you log into is the product.
This is a different job from self-host CMS (Strapi, Payload) and from DB-sidecar CMS (Directus). Those products can be the right answer when the runtime or the SQL schema must stay yours. They are the wrong answer when the goal is to stop owning that stack.
Hosted is also different from codegen. An agent that writes an Express app into your repo has not given you a platform. It has given you another backend to maintain. LUNO’s hosted path is: register, model, connect MCP, publish.
Pricing follows the hosted surface. Per-site and per-organization plans, not editor seats. Free exists so you can evaluate MCP, embed, forms, and the public API before you pay.
If self-host is non-negotiable, prefer the OSS CMS that matches your repo. If you want agents and humans on one managed record, you want a hosted Backend Platform.
